Steenberg Vineyards Winery is one of the wine producers that we have had on our trip schedule for our wine tour to South Africa. When we were that last we had the occasion to make a video interview with John Loubser, general manager of the winery.

The Steenberg winery is best known for its sauvignon blanc wines, a grape perfectly suited for the comparatively cool climate they have. But they also make a whole series of red wines, for example a quite unique wine made from the nebbiolo grape from northern Italy! Which of course we tasted when we were there on our wine tour.

Their premium brand is a blend with cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, shiraz and nebbiolo. Original! But curiously they do not do any pinotage, South Africa’s “own” grape variety so that one we had to taste at other wineries we visited on our wine country tour.

They also have a very nice restaurant and wine bar at the winery – a perfect place to have lunch on the wine tour. And also a perfect place to taste how their wines go with various kinds of food. Which we did!

See the full interview with John Loubser, General Manager of Steenberg Vineyards winery here.

Our next wine tour to South Africa is scheduled for March 2012, which will be an excellent occasion to come back to the Steenberg winery.
