South Africa is a fantastic wine country to travel in.
The wines are very good, you can find world class wines here if you know where to look. After having visited the South African wine regions several times over the past few years we have several very good “addresses” to show you.
The landscape itself is fantastic. You will probably start your journey through the South African wine regions in Cape Town, in itself worth a few extra days. Not far from there you have the nature reserve around Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. The wine regions are surrounded by steep mountains that give a stunning framing to many of the vineyards.
But for us it is of course the wine and food that is the focus.
BKWine’s co-founder Britt recently wrote an article for the American business magazine Forbes where she gives an introduction to the South Africa wines. She has a number of recommendations for excellent producers and gives you a brief intro the the main wine districts.
Here’s how the article starts:
South Africa’s wine industry is entering into the next chapter of its success story. It is time to shake off the image of “cheap and easy” wines and show the world that South Africa is also – since quite some time – capable of top quality. For 20 years South Africa has been giving us cheap wines of reliable quality. But rest assured, things have changed. The country has so much more to offer. Wines of top quality and excellent food.
