I recently wrote about wine regions which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Here comes the next wine district.
The Loire Valley has an unlikely collection of amazing castles and chateaux, which is also what got them on the UNESCO list. Should I be honest, however, these amazing buildings are well away from the most exciting wine regions: Sancerre and Pouilly in the east, and westwards the Touraine, with Vouvray and Montlouis, and Anjou, with for example Savennières. Sauvignon blanc in the east and mainly Chenin Blanc in the west. Not forgetting the red wine districts of Chinon and Bourgueil with their cabernet franc.
Unfortunately, these wines are not so well-known, at least not as much as they deserve. We have over the years organized several wine tours in the Loire Valley. Currently Sancerre is sometimes included on our Three Classics wine tour. As goes for all the rest of the Loire Valley we do custom made wine tours for groups.
