In the August issue of Decanter magazine they have an article that is a guide on what not to miss when you are in Florence. On the list of the six wineries not to miss when you are on a wine tour in Tuscany they have included two estates that BKWine have close contacts with.
The private renaissance Villa Malenchini, or Villa Medicea, is not far from Florence. It is located on one of the hills surrounding Florence and it has a wonderful view of the landscape. You can even see the Doumo in Florence in the distance. Diletta (Malenchini), the current owner, makes both olive oil and wine. We called at her villa at our most recent wine tour to Tuscany and tasted her range of olive oils and the Villa’s own wine. The visit included a tour of the villa, with some amazing wall paintings, the gardens and the ancient cellar. Diletta herself received us and told us all about the history of the mansion. More info:
The small winery Cantina Candialle is something completely different. It is run by the ambitious Finnish-German couple Jarkko (Peranen) and Josephin. One of the first times we visited Candialle on one of our wine tours of Chianti they invited us for lunch in the home – right in their living room. A private cook, friend of the family, prepared a delicious meal with typical Tuscan specialities. All accompanied by the excellent Candialle wines. It felt just like at home at a friend’s in the country. And it was! Intimate and professional at the same time. Just like the winery. And we had no broken legs in spite of all the kids’ toys on the floor… More info:
We are very happy for their sake that they have been mentioned in Decanter and we hope that it will give them some good publicity. they are well worth it! And it makes us long even more for our next visit.
