Visiting the Caiarossa winery on the Tuscany wine tour

The wine tour in Tuscany took us to the Caiarossa winery on the Tuscan coast. It is a quite recent project created by the Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma. The winery is beautifully located in the heart of the Val di Cecina.

The winery has been built from scratch according to the latest technical requirements for a well functioning winery. It is very beautiful and very impressive. The vineyard is managed organically and they also work biodynamically. They are even inspired by the Fengh Shui philosophy.

Caiarossa makes a white wine that is an unusual blend of chardonnay and viognier, a red with a classic Tuscan sangiovese base (Pergolaia), a more modernist “super-tuscan” made from several different non-Italian varieties, and a sweet, late harvest wine called Oro di Caiarossa.

At the winery we visited the vineyards and the wine cellar and enjoyed a tasting of the whole range of wines in their private tasting room. With a beautiful view over the vineyards.

Take a look at some pictures and videos from our visit below.

We taste the white wine at the winery Caiarossa, Val di Cecina, Tuscany. It is an unusual blend of viognier and chardonnay grapes from a relatively recently planted vineyard. This is the first wine we tasted at the wine tour that took us to the coastal regions of Tuscany as well as to the heart of Chianti.

We taste the range of wines in the tasting room at the winery Caiarossa, Val di Cecina, Tuscany, including both the white and reds. They make two red wines; one called Pergolaia is a “Tuscan” blend made with primarily sangiovese grapes plus some cabernet and merlot. The second is called Caiarossa and is a “super Tuscan” made from a wide variety of mainly non-Italian grapes. The grapes come from their own vineyards around the winery near the Tuscan coast.

In the vineyard at the winery Caiarossa, Val di Cecina, Tuscany: Cabernet sauvignon has been planted in the vineyard on the slopes just outside the winery. Ripe and soon ready to be harvested when we were there on the Tuscan wine tour.

This is the vineyard that is just outside the winery at Caiarossa, Val di Cecina, Tuscany. It is a relatively young vineyard. The plot nearest to the winery is cabernet sauvignon, that was wonderfully sweet and ripe and just ready to harvest when we were there on the Tuscan wine tour. From the winery you even have a view over the Mediterranean sea in the far distance.
