Congratulations to our friends at Bodegas Gomez Cruzado in Rioja! They have just been awarded TripAdvisors Certificate of Excellence as a tourist destination. Well deserved!
Gomez Cruzado is a small bodega in Haro the smaller of the two main cities in Rioja. They are not among the most famous bodegas — fame often has to do with big marketing budgets… — but certainly one that is very interesting. And making very good wines.
In fact, Gomez Cruzado is the smallest of the bodegas in the very curious part of Haro called Barrio de la Estacion, or translated the suburbs by the station. That is a very appropriate description. When trade started develop in Rioja in the 19th century it was important to be close to easy transportation. So many bodegas were located very close to the train station, and are still there. Within 5 minutes walking distance from each other you have about a dozen bodegas, many with famous names. I know of no other similar place.
If you are in Haro it is a must to visit the Barrio. And a stop at the Bodegas Gomez Cruzado is of course a good idea too. And the best way to do it is of course to come on a wine tour with BKWine!
