See our travel updates on Facebook without being seen yourself

Here’s how you can see our Facebook updates without yourself appearing on Facebook.

We are posting quite a lot of updates from our tours on Facebook, both pictures and videos. If you are interested in our wine tours you can find a lot of useful information and inspiration in what we post on Facebook.

For example, here is a Facebook “group” that we have created for our last tour to South America, with Chile and Argentina.

If you want to see the updates on that tour then you can join the group. There’s a button for that on the page.

But you can only see these pages on Facebook if you have a Facebook account.

Many people do not want to have a Facebook account because of concerns over privacy (sometimes legitimate, sometimes a less motivated worry) or for other reasons. But you can have a Facebook account that lets you see our pages but that does not show anything about you publicly. This makes it possible for you to see the BKWine updates with pictures and videos on Facebook, but does not show anything about you.

Here’s how.

It is all a question of the privacy settings.

First you do have to create a Facebook account, but once you have the account you simply need to adjust the settings.

You can find the Settings by clicking on the small triangle in the top right corner (the “down-arrow”), and then choosing Settings.

Update: Since Facebook once in a while changes the way their settings are structured, how it looks today can be slightly different from the description below. But it should be reasonably easy to figure out.

Then you select Privacy in the left hand menu. That gives you the option to modify the visibility of your whole account, of your posts (if you do any), and a number of other things.

You can then choose to have “privacy” set to Public (i.e. visible to anyone), Friends (visible only to those that you have become “friend” with on Facebook), or Only Me. There are a few more options you can refine it with.

If you don’t want to be publicly visible on Facebook then you should choose Only Me for all of it.

And you can of course have a Facebook account without ever making a post yourself! Just looking at others.

NB: the design of the settings pages may change over time or may look different in different countries, but the principle is the same.

And voilà, now that you have a Facebook account, even though it is invisible to others, you can see our Facebook updates.

Here’s our BKWine Wine Tours Facebook page. Do Like it!

(If you are very concerned about privacy online I would also suggest that you consider using the Mozilla Firefox browser, instead of Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. And that you take a look at some of the extensions (aka plug-ins or add-ons) that are available. For example: Facebook Disconnect, that allows you to prevent third-party websites accessing your Facebook cookies, and Cookie Controller that allows you to easily control which sites that are allowed to set cookies on your computer.)
