“Colombaia Azienda Agricola Nadia Castagnedi” is the full name, but everyone just calls it Colombaia. The winery and vineyards is run by Dante Lomazzi, winemaker, and Helena Variara. We were there recently on our wine tour in Tuscany.
Here are some images and comments from the winery.
Tasting the very original white wine made at Azienda Agricola Colombaia in Chianti in Tuscany. It is made from trebbiano and malvasia grapes, very full-bodied and interesting. A wine and wine style rarely seen and that one rarely has the opportunity to taste.
When visiting the Azienda Agricola Colombaia in Chianti on our wine tour in Tuscany we had the opportunity to see their elegant Tuscan villa surrounded by vineyards and a beautiful countryside and taste the wines around the owners’ private dining room table. A warm welcome.
At Azienda Agricola Colombaia in Chianti, Tuscany the Trebbiano is almost ripe and ready for picking when we make a tour of the vineyards. It is deliciously sweet and will go into their blend of their very interesting and original white Tuscan wine.
The sangiovese grapes hang ripe and ready for harvest when we arrive on our wine tour at Azienda Agricola Colombaia in Chianti, Tuscany. The sangiovese grapes will be the main ingredient in their very elegant and deliciously fragrant Colombaia red wine that we later taste in their tasting room.
The Azienda Agricola Colombaia in Chianti, Tuscany, also makes a very interesting sparkling rosé wine that we had the opportunity to taste when we visited on our wine tour. It is made into a sparkling wine with no additions at all according to the “ancient method” (méthode ancestrale). There is not adding of sugar, no added yeast, just naturally fermented in bottle. And closed with a crown cap! A delicious wine that one rarely has the occasion to taste. Would be excellent as aperitif or with some lighter food.

The Azienda Agricola Colombaia in Chianti, Tuscany is an organic as well as biodynamic winery. Their vineyard is managed as naturally as possible with minimal intervention. They leave the grass and plants to grow on the soil and encourage a maximum of biodiversity. When we visited on our wine tour both the vineyard and the grapes looked exceptionally healthy after a very hot and dry summer. Here is a field planted with sangiovese grapes. The wine harvest was just about to start.

Here is the tasting that was lined up for us at our Tuscan wine tour when we arrived at Azienda Agricola Colombaia in Chianti, Tuscany, a very interesting organic and biodynamic vineyard in Tuscany. They make two red wines which are actually IGT Rosso Toscano although they are made in traditional Tuscan style primarily from sangiovese grapes. They make one white, very unusual wine and a rosé sparkling “ancient method” that is only produced in very tiny quantities. Sometimes they also make some other cuvées.
