The Vacqueyras appellation in the southern Rhone Valley is celebrating the 20 years since it was created.
In 1990 Vacqueyras was given its own independent appellation. Before that it was “just” a sub-appellation of Cotes-du-Rhone. In connection with this they invited a small group of journalists to a tasting in Paris of all twenty vintages since 1990.
BKWine was among the invited guests and we will write more about this on BKWine Magazine.
We could easily conclude that Vacqueyras is a wine that certainly can age for 20 years. All the wines were excellent – of course quite mature when we cam to the older vintages. And most of the younger vintages were very powerful – they have had a string of successful vintages recently. If you drink them young or if you age the wines for many years is very much a question of what style you prefer!
Vacqueyras is also an appellation that we often include in our wine tours to the Rhone Valley. With good reason!
