Guido Schwengersbauer has lived in Croatia for many, many years. Today he runs a charming small hotel called La Parenzana in the small village of Buje on the Istrian peninsula. One of his passions is the Istrian wine and food.

We met Guido recently when we were travelling in Istria and talked about the Istrian wine and food the he so loves: the white malvazia wines, the red terans, the cuisine that can almost be seen as a kind of fusion food (to borrow a tried expression from the food fashion world) mixing Italian, Hungarian, Austrian and Balkan traditions; the white truffles; the honey; the fabulous olive oil etc etc. (And we have to go back one day soon – we never got to taste Guido’s fames ravioli filled with white truffles!)

Here is our interview with Guido:

(BKWine organises bespoke wine and food tours to Istria in Croatia. In the autumn of 2011 we will have one – custom designed – tour that will include a fabulous white truffle lunch…)
